Wish I had something to report...

...but I really don't. I've mostly been caught up in my personal writings lately. I got an idea for a superhero graphic novel and I've been fleshing it out, and I continue to edit my novel chapter by chapter (in reverse this time), not to mention submitting stuff and collecting rejection notices (current total: 8, all form rejects.) Other than that, the kitty and I are back in our apartment, the new roommates move in in a week and school starts a week from Thursday. Life goes on.

Because I need a pick-me-up

Bleh. Having a lot of trouble with various things lately. I continue to wait for my new laptop to come in and will have to drive quite a bit to pick it up. Something went wrong with my $50 eye drop prescription, so I got the equivalent of 40 drops of medicine in a single drop and burned the hell out of my eye; but the pharmacy won't admit that they messed something up. And I just don't have everything together right now.

So...here's this meme thing. I'm doing it partially because I could use the pick-me-up, partially because I really do want to know what peoples' favorite work of mine is, and partially because I have a raging author ego and like to hear stuff like that. :P

Scott Pilgrim

:D

Scott Pilgrim was AWSOME. I’ve always liked the books because they’re so well-written and quirky, and the movie captured that atmosphere perfectly. All of the video game references were well-timed, the effects were awesome, the actors were spot-on (especially Wallace and Steven Stiles), the music was great and the writing was perfect. It was just like reading the books, right down to picking out a whole truck load of the best lines and scenes – some said by different people and in different contexts, but all retaining the real power and attitude of the story.

In short: god damn, that movie was awesome. I wanna see it again. XD

Also, staying with my best friends from high school for the weekend, and I love it. These girls (twins) are like my favorite people in the world and I don't get to see them near enough.

Now, onto the music meme!

Still without a computer. I'm working off my brother's old laptop right now, but it's not very reliable. At least I've gotten some writing done recently. Also, I've been enjoying my old nostalgic video games, with all the jump start settings set up to their highest settings. If I have to be at my parents' house for a chunk of the summer, I figure it's a fairly good way to spend it.

Day 24: A song that you want to play at your funeral

Yes, I want it sung at my wedding and reprise'd at my funeral. I know its a little weird. That's just the first thing that comes to mind.

Computer problems

*pout* I’ve had computer problems, that’s why this post is so late. My laptop died and it’ll be a week before I get a new one. In addition, I just found out that the Kid Flash and Robin of the new Young Justice animated series are Wally and Dick, not Bart and Tim. It’s not that I’m not going to watch the show, because I’m still totally going to watch it, but dammit they got my hopes up. (I miss my Timmy…and I’m still not quite back into Batman comics yet…)

Ah well.

Other than that, I’ve mostly been working on my own stuff. I’m editing my book right now and working on a couple of fan fictions that are…well, they’re coming along slowly but surely. I’m sure I’ll get them posted…eventually. ^.^;

You know, I went out and did a lot today…but in retrospect I didn’t really get that much done. I sent off another post-based query and composed a midi for my next Book Bites in the computer lab in the music hall (I love going to a fine arts college) but other than that I just kinda…zoned. Guess I just needed to relax.

Day 22: A song that you listen to when you’re sad

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=paD_lC52dFc

I’m the kind of person who likes to enjoy my sadness, so I listen to songs like this that really let you feel it.

Oddly enough, it’s very hard to find clips of “Zanna, Don’t!” anywhere on the internet, despite the fact that it’s really a nice show, for some reason you can’t embed the video. So here’s some guy using the song to practice the lip-flaps on his muppet; which is admittedly fun to watch in its own right.

Writing frustrations

Hey ma, I'm a writer

I can now officially say that I’ve begun collecting rejection notices, as I have received three in the last week: two for my novel and a third for a short story. And they were all form rejections, which means that they probably didn’t get pass the query letter. Sigh. It’s weird. I’m not actually upset about it. I’m more…well, not really annoyed, but…put-out?

You know that feeling that you get, when you’ve got a big day planned with your sweetheart, with a trip to the zoo and a nice dinner and finishing off with a movie, but then you get to the zoo and you find out that it’s closed because of a turkey flu outbreak and now you and your sweetheart have three hours with nothing to do before your dinner reservations?

That’s a little like what I’m feeling right now. Which may or may not explain why I spent the last three hours firing off queries to four other lit agents. I’m determined to at least get one of them to request extra pages and or give me a reason why they don’t want my book besides the standard, “Dear Author, you’re just not right for me, srry!” note.

Oh, and having them offer to represent me would be nice too. But I figure if I set my goals low I won’t be too disappointed.

EDIT: Make that four rejection slips, this one via e-mail. At least this last one is for a site that I know only sends form rejections because they've had trouble with disgrunted participants before. It's sure annoying though. I can't even know if it's because they don't like my stuff or because they're just not interested in my offer right now. Oh well.

On a completely different note, at least one of my roommates who are moving out this week is an idiot, because we have this little spout on the sink where the overflow from the dish washer gets belched out, and someone keeps turning the damn thing so that it spurts water all over the counter and, if it’s allowed to run all the way through, floods the kitchen. And they set it up like that when the only person living in the apartment right now (me) does not really know how to properly wield a mop and therefore has a lot of trouble just not making the mess into an even bigger one. Sigh.

Finally: Today I received my incredibly cheap used copy of The Legend of Rah and the Muggles. Despite what TV Tropes has told me, I have discovered that it is not just the worst children’s book ever written. It is the most HILLARIOUSLY bad children’s book ever written. I totally cannot wait to bite into this thing, because just, wow. XD

Was lazy today. Didn’t really do anything. Here’s the music meme though:

Day 20: A song that you listen to when you’re angry

I don’t get angry often, but this song is just so in-your-face that it’s a wonderful way to release stress. This isn’t the greatest recording of it, but you get an idea of how passionate it is. Especially since, in most productions, it ends with them turning the oh-so-happy Balladeer – who’s acted as a narrator the entire show reinforcing the usual Americana messages about hard work and decrying the actions of the various Assassins – into Lee Harvey Oswald.

It’s pretty chilling.

Boy, but I’ve used several Assassins songs in this meme, haven’t I?

Dancing to reveal your true feelings

Started working my way through Princess Tutu today. I picked it up at AnimeFest last year because I have this thing for Chris Patton and he seems fairly proud of his role in this show. Besides, I’d heard it was a different kind of magical girl show, and I’m always interested in stories that manage to disrupt their genres. It has a dark fairy tale-like atmosphere, which is nice, especially since the traditional gender roles are reversed: our noble and strong Princess Tutu must rescue her passive and distant Prince.

The overall ballet motive is also interesting. It sometimes makes Princess Tutu's moves look a little unrealistic, but at the same time, its' as though she turns the entire world into a ballet, which is an interesting aspect in its own right. Not to mention, the story is well-done and can be outright heartbreaking at times.

Also, the dance teacher “Mister Cat” is adorable. ^_^

Saw The Sorcerer’s Apprentice yesterday. Fun little film. Not the greatest story I’ve ever heard or the greatest movie I’ve ever seen, but it was enjoyable. Could’ve done without the little prologue at the beginning though. When will people ever learn?

Also, my internet at my apartment has been messing up. So I had to slip on-campus to post this and play my D&D game tonight. :3
